Actionable Recommendations

This page is intended for discussion of minimal metadata recommendations tied to interoperability. Ultimately, the recommendations might be of the form 'if you provide metadata x,y from the z vocabulary, the following tools and services will be able to read your data and provide capabilities a,b,c'. A simple draft example from the workshop was the idea that we might be able to agree that if you provide a Dublin core title, abstract, and keywords, metadata catalogs (represented by SHARE and DataOne in the room) would agree to show the dataset in harvested lists (and could/would ignore datasets that did not have this info). Other areas discussed included geospatial coverage, provenance, internal structure (e,g, file/folder tree), local copy locations. Based on discussions and the materials collected on the Current Practices pages, these and other examples could be refined and connected to the set of projects that agree to support them. Minimal metadata specifications from organizations such as RDA could be useful starting points.
