 Mid-size cyberinfrastructure

  • Gap between small grants and 100M lacking
  • National data colider
    • Bringing data and compute together - collide to make new science
  • Is this a good goal for NDS?
    • What are the steps for developing this out

Development roadmap

  https://opensource.ncsa.illinois.edu/confluence/display/NDS/2017-10-19+Roadmap

Craig
  1. Exporting docker image from workbench
    1. Need to find a use case? Best example is exporting data from workshop. But not customized software.
    2. seed can export a docker container with messaging service and extractors. Workbench could allow you to change these extractors.. but doesn't happen very often.
    3. Original vision of tool for cyberinfrastructure dev, but focused a lot now on researchers
  2. Dataset list + launch analyses
    1. Now have NDS data page: http://www.nationaldataservice.org/data/
      1. Designed to get discussion going, dont quite fit traditional repository model
    2. Quick start functionality
    3. Investigating providing MDF forge tutorial in workbench
    4. This is a stop gap interested in steps to get towards DataDNS
      1. Talked about enabling linkage into workbench
    5. Could we pilot out mini-registry focused on the multiple data access and also linkage with workbench
    6. Worth talking about more concrete path here
      1. Focus on how we can do cool things on datasets rather than registry
      2. How does this fit with collider?
  3. InCommon
    1. OAuth/Globus Auth support
    2. Current model not very friendly
    3. Workbench, based on kubernetes, nginx ingress, oauth2 proxy (bitly)
  4. Making it easier to run hackathon/workshops
    1. Simplify spinning up workbench
  5. FRDR
    1. For discussion. Potential combination with 2)
  6. EarthCube
    1. Specific use case (Christine)

Next meeting: potentially drill down on 2. How much labor can actually be put towards this?
